Widespread heavy rain associated with Storm Bert, possibly falling as snow at first, is expected across the Lower Calder catchment, with the rain persisting for much of today (Saturday 23 November 2024). River levels are expected to rise through the afternoon and evening, potentially peaking on the Calder at Mirfield late Saturday evening. Impacts are possible from river and surface water flooding in the Mirfield, Horbury and Wakefield areas, including Calder View Road from around mid afternoon onwards. Further rainfall is expected at times on Sunday 24 November 2024 with additional impacts possible. We are closely monitoring the situation and our Area Incident Room will be open through the weekend. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water or walking near swollen rivers, particularly on Saturday 23 November 2024 when gale force winds are forecast. River levels are expected to rise through the afternoon and evening, potentially peaking on the Calder at Mirfield late Saturday evening. Impacts are possible from river and surface water flooding in the Mirfield, Horbury and Wakefield Area, including Calder View Road from around mid afternoon onwards. This Flood Alert remains in force due to the potential for heavy rain this evening, Wednesday 16th October 2024, and into the early hours of Thursday. We do not currently expect to issue flood warnings as a result of this rainfall, however there may be surface water flooding issues in areas affected by the heavier bursts of rainfall. Levels on the Calder are due to peak in Mirfield at around 3:30 am and at Dewsbury at around 4:30 am on Thursday 17th October 2024. Levels are then expected to fall going into daylight hours on Thursday, with the heaviest rain having moved away. Flooding of roads and low lying land is possible. We are closely monitoring the situation and monitoring rainfall and river levels. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. Less rain than forecast affected the area overnight with minimal river response. However, this Flood Alert remains in force due to the potential for heavy rain today Wednesday 16th October. If the heaviest areas of rain affect the Lower Calder catchment there may be a significant river response as well as surface water flooding issues. Currently the main period of concern is this evening from approximately 10pm into the early hours of Thursday morning. Flooding of roads and low lying land is possible. Heavy rain is expected in parts of the Calder catchment throughout tonight, Tuesday 15th October, and into early tomorrow morning. River levels are expected to rise as a result and flooding is possible. Impacts are expected in the Mirfield Area, including Calder View Road, between 5am and 10am tomorrow, Wednesday 16th October. Levels are then anticipated to fall throughout the day. Further rainfall is expected tomorrow evening but further impacts are not currently anticipated. Flooding of roads and low lying land is possible. Surface Water flooding may be possible. We are closely monitoring the situation and monitoring rainfall and river levels. This alert has been issued on the forecast of tonight’s rain. This rain will move across our catchments from the southwest starting Thursday evening, 04/04/24, and continuing into Friday morning, 05/04/24. With catchments still wet, we expect to see a response in the river overnight with levels rising through the night before beginning to peak during the morning. Areas most at risk include the River Calder from Brighouse to Castleford including Chickenley Beck, Spring Mill Beck and Waindike. Further rain is forecast over the next 24 hours and river levels could rise again as a result. We are closely monitoring the situation. Flooding is possible at River Calder from Brighouse to Castleford including Chickenley Beck, Spring Mill Beck and Waindike from approximately 9:30 AM on 22/02/2024. River levels are expected to peak around 11:00 this morning at Mirfield and around 12:15 this afternoon in Horbury. We will continue to monitor levels and forecast closely. Water levels in the Lower River Calder between Brighouse and Castleford are falling after rainfall yesterday. Further rainfall is forecast today (02/01/2024), but this is not expected to require further issue of this alert or any associated warnings. This alert remains in force as the river will remain at a level where low-lying farm and park land next to the river may still be affected for another couple of hours. River levels in the Lower River Calder between Brighouse and Castleford are expected to rise this evening in response to the rainfall which is now falling and will continue into the early hours of 2nd January. Further rainfall is forecast tomorrow (02/01/2024), which will increase levels again. Low-lying farm and park land next to the river is likely to be affected by the rising water. We do not currently expect properties to flood from the River Calder but we will continue to monitor the situation. Today and throughout tomorrow, Sunday 23rd July 2023, persistent rainfall is forecast, with a spell of heavier rain expected tonight. River levels are currently forecast to peak tomorrow, in Mirfield around 15:00 and then downstream through Wakefield around 17:30. This persistent rain could lead to flooding of low-lying land and localised surface water flooding. We are not currently expecting to issue flood warnings but will be closely monitoring the situation. Please stay aware of your surroundings and do not put yourself at risk. River levels have risen as a result of heavy rainfall on Sunday (01/11/20). Flooding of low lying land and minor roads is possible into tomorrow. Intense areas of rain may develop within the wider band of rainfall which may result in surface water issues and a sharp response from any smaller watercourses. We currently expect the River Calder at Mirfield Ledgard Bridge to peak around 04:00 today (02/11/20). Further showers through today are likely to keep rivers at high levels through the day. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring the forecast and we have field teams ready to inspect flood defences and key locations. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and do not put yourself at danger by driving through flood water. River levels are forecast to rise as a result of heavy rainfall this evening, Sunday 1st November, and into tonight. Consequently, flooding of low lying land and minor roads is possible overnight and into tomorrow. Intense areas of rain are expected to develop within the wider band of rainfall. River levels along the lower Calder fell below the flood risk threshold this afternoon, 22/02/20, after they rose in response to yesterday’s rainfall. However, this Flood Alert remains in force as we expect to see the river begin to rise again tomorrow morning, 23/02/20, in response to further rain. This further rainfall is expected from midnight tonight, lasting into Sunday morning. We expect to see a river response in the early hours of 23/02/20, and expect this to be similar to that seen this morning, peaking in the afternoon. Levels in the River Calder downstream of Brighouse have now fallen below the level at which there is a risk of flooding. Areas of standing water remain in some areas and operations teams are assessing damage to property and defences. Rainfall over the next few days in expected to be showery and increasingly wintery over the hills in the Upper River Calder catchment and therefore we do not anticipate a significant response in river levels. Our Leeds Incident Room remains open and we continue to monitor the situation.

The River Calder peaked at Methley in the early hours of this morning, 10/02/20, but levels are likely to remain elevated for the next 24 hours before continuing to fall, so this Flood Alert remains in force as there could still be impacts to low-lying roads and land. Further scattered showers are forecast throughout the rest of today, 10/02/20, however we do not anticipate a significant river level response. We continue to monitor the situation. The lower reaches of the River Calder are forecast to peak around 17:00 before they begin to slowly fall. Whitwood Mere washland is now operating. Although the heavy rainfall has eased, high winds and further showers are forecast this evening and into Monday, 10/02/2020. Consequently, the risk of flooding remains.
